In the summer of 2014, Iberia placed an order for 16 wide-body aircraft: 8 A330-200 aircraft and 8 Airbus A350-900 XWB aircraft. The 8 A330-200 units will arrive in the Spanish operator's fleet between December 2015 and November 2016. This means that delivery will be made about 14 months ahead of the initially announced period.

The new A330-200 will replace the current A340-300, which means a substantial savings for the Iberia budget. A330-200 airplanes are powered by 2 engines and have a lower fuel consumption compared to A340-300, which is a 4 engine. In addition to lower operating costs, A330 also offers increased passenger comfort. Iberia accelerates the modernization of the aircraft fleet for long-haul flights.

In addition to investments in new aircraft, Iberia has also upgraded Airbus A340-600 aircraft cabs. 80% of the A340-600 aircraft fleet has already received the new cabs for Business Class and Economy Class. Printe facilities are found: chairs that can be converted into beds, more space for Economy, Wi-Fi on board and a new entertainment system.
