0 320

Between January 30 and March 15, 2023, approximately 250 children and young people, aged between 5 and 19, visited the two Bucharest airports - Henri Coandă Bucharest International Airport and Bucharest Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport - as part of the educational program success "AIRPORT VISIT TOUR". By the end of the 2022-2023 school year, similar actions are scheduled for another 500 children.

AIRPORT VISIT TOUR

Through this project, Bucharest Airports National Company shows its openness to education, with the aim of facilitating the knowledge and understanding of the specifics of airport activity: the role and importance of the airport in air transport, the distinction between airport - airline - handling company, specific airport activities, orientation in the airport , the passenger experience, the history of Romanian aviation, etc.

The visits are guided and cover both the air operations area and the passenger terminals. Participants learn new things about ground operations (tow/push back, directing aircraft to stationary positions) and assist in such operations. Also, the airport infrastructure is presented (runways, aircraft parking platforms, taxiways, passenger terminals, boarding/disembarking systems through airbridges, etc.).

Machinery and equipment can be seen in action

The machines and equipment can be seen in action, and the jobs specific to an airport can also be identified in the field, by visiting some workplaces. Orientation in an airport, as passengers, prepares visitors for their future air travel. The history of Romanian aviation, the Romanian pioneers of aviation, the history of the two Bucharest airports, but also of the first transcontinental airline company - Compagnie Franco - Roumaine de Navigation Aerienne (CFRNA) - represent temporal landmarks for any visitor, regardless of age, even more so for the very young.

The program attracts an impressive number of requests every year, especially during the intervals in which the "Different Week" is organized in schools; due to the very large number of requests, groups that could not be scheduled this year will be able to register for 2024 between October 1 and 31, 2023, at [email protected]

We remind you that the AIRPORT VISIT TOUR project was launched in 2010, and until now approximately 4000 children from the Capital and the country have visited the two Bucharest airports. Guided visits have been suspended during the Covid 19 pandemic.
