Spain travel alert: yellow, orange and red codes for heat and storm!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Romanian citizens who are, transit or want to travel to Spain that the Spanish Meteorological Agency has issued yellow, orange and red heat codes, valid for almost the whole country, except the northern area (Galicia and Cantabria), such as and storms (strong wind gusts) in certain areas, between 11-12 August 2021, as follows:

August 11, 2021:

  • Code of heatwave (with temperatures around 40ºC) for Andalucia, Aragon (plus storm), Castilla la Mancha, Cataluña, Extremadura;
  • Yellow heat wave (with temperatures around 38ºC) - announced for the Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon (plus storm), Community of Madrid, Region of Murcia, Foral Community of Navarra, La Rioja (plus storm).

August 12, 2021:

  • Code red heat (with temperatures around 42ºC) - announced for Aragon and Cataluña;
  • Code of heatwave (with temperatures around 40ºC) - announced for Castilla y Leon, Castilla la Mancha, Extremadura, Community of Madrid, Foral Community of Navarra, La Rioja;
  • Yellow heat wave (with temperatures up to 38ºC) - announced for the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Region of Murcia, Basque Country, Valencian Community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates the recommendation that Romanian citizens should constantly consult the public information provided by the Spanish authorities.

Also, in case of emergency, it is recommended to Romanian citizens who are in the affected areas to contact the competent authorities, calling the emergency number 112.
