MFA alert for Greece: vegetation fires!
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs the Romanian citizens who intend to travel to the Hellenic Republic that the local authorities have issued a fire warning, for the period July 5-7, 2022, due to high temperatures and strong wind.
There is an imminent danger of vegetation fires in the following regions:
- The islands of the North and East Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria);
- the regions of Attica, Central Greece (Viotia, Evia), the Peloponnese peninsula (Corinth, Argolis, Lakonia, Arkadia, Messinia) and Western Greece (Ilia, Ahaia).
The Greek authorities recommend that all persons exercise caution and avoid any outdoor activity that may negligently cause a fire (eg burning / cleaning of dry vegetation, use of machines / devices that cause sparks, use of grills in outdoors, smoking beehives, throwing lighted cigarettes, cleaning / burning vegetation on agricultural plots - prohibited this season, etc.). In case of fire, citizens are asked to immediately notify the fire department at 199.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends to the Romanian citizens in Greece, in the event of a fire in the area where they are, to follow exactly the instructions of the competent authorities (police, firefighters, etc.).
Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the telephone numbers of the Romanian Embassy in Athens: +302106774035 and of the Consulate General of Romania in Thessaloniki: +302310340088, the calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center of Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and taken over by Call Center operators, on a permanent basis.
