On 27 August 2019, Antonov An-124-100 aircraft, considered the second largest cargo plane (civilian) in the world, landed for the first time at João Paulo II Airport, Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island (Azores).

The aircraft landed at around 12: 30. This unique moment attracted hundreds of curious and passionate aviation and photography enthusiasts. We mention that this is the first time an An-124 has landed on São Miguel Island.

Antonov An-124 aircraft, under the colors of Volga-Dnepr Airlines, carried technical equipment and spare parts to repair the Boeing 757-200 Delta Air Lines aircraft.

We remind you that the Boeing 757-200 (N543US), which operated flight DL414 New York - Ponta Delgada, suffered significant damage following a hard landing at João Paulo II Airport. The fuselage and landing gear were damaged. The unfortunate event took place on August 18.
