Today, Friday - November 13, 2020, was not a good day for the crew of the Antonov An-124 (RA-82042) Volga Dnepr plane. This morning, the aircraft was to operate flight VI-4066, on the route Novosibirsk (Russia) - Vienna (Austria). It took off with 14 people on board, without cargo.

Shortly after takeoff, when it was at an altitude of 1800 feet MSL, the transponder signal as well as the radio communication were lost. The crew decided to return to the airport of departure and positioned the aircraft to land on runway 25 of Novosibirsk Airport (UNNT).

And since a problem never comes alone, the aircraft's engine 2 suffered major damage while the plane was preparing to land. Large chunks of its front fell over a nearby warehouse.

Following the landing, the Antonov An-124 (RA-82042) passed the runway by 200 meters. The landing gear suffered major damage. According to the photos, it looks like the plane stopped on its stomach. Part of the left wing was also destroyed. Witnesses say that engines 3 and 4 did not escape without problems, as they emitted smoke from takeoff.

Fortunately, all the occupants of the aircraft escaped unharmed. No casualties were reported on the ground. The West Siberian Transport Directorate has opened an investigation into the accident.

The Antonov An-124 (RA-82042) Volga Dnepr aircraft was built in 1991. Propulsion was provided by 4 D-18T engines.
