Antonov An-225 Mriya returns to the commercial service, ready to transport large volumes of goods
Antonov Airlines has announced the reopening of the giant An-225 Mriya. The largest aircraft in the world can carry up to 250 tons of cargo, which makes it extremely useful for bulky shipments or heavy deliveries.
At the beginning of the year, Antonov An-225 Mriya transported 1300 tons of sanitary equipment and medical equipment to various destinations in Europe, but also on other continents. It was a basic aircraft in the fight against the new coronavirus.
Periodically, the plane is subject to maintenance, and this week it will leave the Antonov hangars. He will join the fleet Antonov, which also has 7 An-124 aircraft, which can carry up to 150 tons. Mriya has on-board loading equipment and a pressurized cabin.
We expect the giant An-225 to be requested to transport the vaccine against COVID-19. According to IATA estimates, it will be the largest operation in human history. More than 8000 flights with high-capacity aircraft, such as the Boeing 747, will be needed to transport the vaccine worldwide.
Antonov An-225 Mriya is unique in the world and holds no less than 242 records.
