Aurora Airlines, a new subsidiary of Aeroflot

On 7 November 2013, Aeroflot announced a new regional branch, Aurora Airlines, based in the Russian Far East. The new airline was created as a result of the merger between SAT Airlines and Vladivostok Air, at the request of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Aeroflot will own 51% of Aurora Airlines, and the rest will be transferred to the Sakhalin regional government.


Aurora Airlines it aims to contribute to economic and social growth, in the Far East area of ​​Russia, by implementing a more efficient and accessible means of transport for passengers.

The 5 year plan sounds good. Until 2018, under the leadership of Konstantin Sukhorebrik, the Aurora operational network will increase from 30 to 128 destinations, will operate up to 534 weekly flights, and passenger traffic will reach 2.4 millions per year.

The Aurora fleet will be consolidated with modern aircraft. In addition to the current Boeing 737 aircraft, the fleet will receive three Airbus A319 aircraft by the end of this year. By the end of 2014, Aurora expects other 7 units of this type. The overall size of the fleet should reach up to 40 aircraft up to 2018.

The first flight is expected to be operated by the end of this week.
