Summer tourist traffic at Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport rose - again - last month. A total of 1.43 million passengers passed through the BER in August, about 180.000 more than in July 2021.

About a year ago, in August, approximately 830.000 passengers passed through Schönefeld and Tegel airports, compared to August 2019, when the two airports served almost 3.2 million passengers. The load factor of the aircraft in August 2021 was 77%.

The airport company uses its two runways, alternating monthly between them, since April 2021, for a uniform distribution of aircraft noise. The southern runway was used in August.

Last month, approximately 12.700 aircraft trips were managed to the BER, 1.100 more than in July 2021. In August 2020, approximately 9.600 aircraft took off and landed in Schönefeld or Tegel, in August 2019 this number being of about 25.000 aircraft.

In terms of air freight, about 2.150 tonnes of cargo were handled last month, about 150 tonnes less than in July and about 500 tonnes more than in August 2020. before the August 2019 crisis, the same figure was around 3.100 tonnes.
