In 2017, during the Paris Air Show, Blue Air placed an order for 6 737 MAX 8 aircraft. It was given directly to Boeing. Also during that period, Blue Air and Air Lease Corporation conclude contract for 6 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

But the sad period in the history of the 737 MAX program followed. There were 2 accidents involving such aircraft and the entire fleet of MAX aircraft was detained on the ground. Deliveries are blocked until 737 MAX will be recertified by FAA and competent industry authorities.

In this context, to which we add the crisis generated by the pandemic with the new coronavirus, several airlines, including Blue Air, gave up the 737 MAX aircraft.

Blue Air gives up the 6 x 737 MAX 8, which are part of the order placed directly at Boeing. But the Romanian low-cost carrier does not give up the idea of ​​having 737 MAX in the fleet. Blue Air still actively holds the contract with Air Lease Corporation. By canceling the order placed at Boeing, Blue Air unlocked the amount paid in advance to block the delivery slots.

Blue Air destinations - valid from 1 July

Even if is going through a difficult financial situation, Blue Air is struggling to overcome these moments and is implementing a recovery plan. Starting July 1, Blue Air resumed operations in a limited form.

Gradually, Blue Air will adjust its operational schedule according to market demand. From 4 September 2020, Blue Air will operate flights from Bucharest to Amsterdam. And some information, received by the editorial office, shows flights from Bucharest to Timisoara, Oradea, Suceava, several flights to Cluj. Plus the reintroduction of some routes, which are now removed from the system. We are also waiting for the official announcements.
