On 27 August 2016, around local time 09: 00, WN3472 flight operated by Southwest Airlines was diverted to Pensacola airport. The reason was quite serious. Shortly after taking off from New Orleans International Airport, Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-7H4 (WL) pilots reported the loss of the 1 engine.

The plane had 99 passengers and 5 crew members on board. Fly on the New Orleans - Orlando route. While climbing to FL310, about 26 km south of Biloxi, the 1 engine intake hood came off. Passengers also reported a strong explosion and smoke odor.

Following the incident, the pilots lowered the aircraft to 10 000 feet (approximately 3000 meters) and to 09: 40 safely landed on the runway of Pensacola Airport. No casualties were reported.

Boeing 737-700 (N766SW) Southwest Airlines is 16 years old and 5 months old. He operated the first flight on 12 May 2000. US investigators are investigating the case to determine exactly what led to this accident.
