The Republic of Malta is an island country in southern Europe, being an archipelago in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, at 93 km south of Sicily, Italy and 288 km north of Tunisia. The Malta archipelago consists of the islands of Malta, Gozo, Comino and Cominitto (uninhabited). These islands, strategically located, have been conquered and ruled by different powers over the centuries.

The de facto capital is Valletta, and the largest city is Birkirkara. On the main island there are many small cities, which form an Extended Urban Area with a population of 368.250 inhabitants (most of the population in the country) according to Eurostat. The country has two official languages: Maltese (considered to be the national language) and English.

Malta is among the top holiday destinations preferred by Romanians. They do not enjoy the success of Greece, Turkey or Bulgaria, but more and more tourists choose to spend their holidays on the Maltese coast.

Until this year, there were no regular direct flights between Malta and Romania, but only charters. But Wizz Air is breaking the ice and has announced that it will open the Bucharest-Malta route on June 12, to operate 3 weekly flights, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.

Air Malta is the second airline that wants to operate regular flights between Bucharest and Malta, announcing a weekly flight from May 22 after the following schedule:

KM4526 MLA 12:50 - 16:00 OTP - Airbus A320 - Thursday
KM4527 OTP 16:45 - 17:55 MLA - Airbus A320 - Thursday

Rates start at EUR 250 per person, return flights and all taxes included. The segment flight takes approximately 2 hours.

As you can see from our simulation, the ticket price includes a cabin baggage of 10 Kg and a hold baggage of 20 Kg. The on-board catering services are also free. Air Malta is a full-service airline.

I mention that the flights will be operated until 23 October, the route being considered seasonal.

I flew twice back and forth from Bucharest to Valletta. The flights were impeccable, the flight staff kind and pleasant, the planes well maintained, very clean, leather seats. Luqa Airport is not big but it is modern, clean and has a terrace.
