The airline Lufthansa will launch a new subsidiary in mid-2023, known as City Airlines. It will be based in Munich and will operate medium-courier flights.

Announced a year ago, the new airline City Airlines does not yet have an official launch date. We only know that it will be based at Munich-Frantz Josef Strauss Airport and will operate a fleet of single-aisle Airbus aircraft, probably the A319 model that can seat 24 passengers in Business class and 102 in Economy.

"We are delighted to offer daily flights from our base in Munich to major European cities and remote areas. As a new airline of the Lufthansa Group, we combine Lufthansa quality and the Lufthansa CityLine experience with the dynamism of a young company."

"Behind the company is a 'very professional team' in the cockpit and cabin, which is characterized both by training and preparation according to Lufthansa standards and by its great diversity. In the administrative and technical areas, we work in close coordination with Lufthansa CityLine and the Lufthansa Group".

Star Alliance member Lufthansa explained in March 2022 that the new AOC (air operator's certificate) would "protect" the jobs of 250 pilots who were out of a job after the closure of Germanwings. In fact, market indications show us that the new airline is rising from the ashes of Germanwings, including as an operational policy.
