On March 16, 2020, a Boeing 747-400F ASL Airlines aircraft transported over 300 masks to Liege. These were donated by two foundations from China, the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation, in a sustained effort to help Belgium fight the new COVID-000. The aircraft has operated several flights between China and Belgium in the last 2 weeks.

Belgium, which became a member of the Electronic World Trade Platform in 2018, has worked closely with foundations to facilitate the distribution and delivery of medical supplies against the backdrop of the coronavirus outbreak, which has so far infected over 170.000 people worldwide.

Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) is a platform developed by the Alibaba initiative and is intended to help small and medium-sized businesses do business globally.

A key element of the agreement between Belgium and Alibaba, as part of this initiative, is the investment in a logistics hub at the Liege airport in the Wallonia region. Since the outbreak of the pandemic with the new Coronavirus, the airport has played a vital role in ensuring timely supplies of medical supplies in the country and on the old continent.
