American Airlines is going through difficult times, as is the case with the entire global aviation industry. The COVID-19 pandemic succeeded in putting down, on its own and in the figure, thousands of aircraft and resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of thousands of flights.

In the struggle with the unseen enemy, the governments of the world have made unique decisions in the modern era. They closed the borders, they closed bars, clubs and restaurants. They closed cinemas, theaters, malls and shopping centers. At this moment, mankind is headed by the motto "#staiacasa".

American Airlines will operate cargo flights

In these conditions, American Airlines had to reduce international flights by 75%, and the frequencies on domestic flights were greatly reduced, due to the lack of passengers.

The number of passenger flights was reduced, but freight flights increased greatly. Now countries in difficulty need fast supplies, medical equipment and equipment, they need supplies, raw materials. The goods must circulate by air, land and ship.

In order to cover part of the market demand, American Airlines decided to resume the operation of freight flights (freight only) with passenger aircraft. It should be mentioned that this has not been done by Amercain Airlines since 1984, when the last Boeing 747 CARGO was withdrawn from the fleet.

The first scheduled flight took off on March 20, 2020, from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). It is operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, which will land on the morning of March 21, 2020 in Frankfurt (FRA). Will make 2 round trips DFW-FRA over four days.

The 4 flights will carry medical equipment, telecommunications equipment, parcels, online orders, electronics & appliances and correspondence for the US military in Europe. A Boeing 777-300ER has 14 positions for cargo pallets and can carry up to 45.4 tons of cargo. And the 4 flights will be full.

American Airlines will continue to carry cargo on small aircraft operating domestic and regional flights. This week, Amereican Airlines shipped its first delivery of COVID-19 test kits on Raleigh-Durham Airport - Chicago O'Hare Airport.

I mention that American Airlines has one of the largest aircraft fleets in the world. They are dedicated to the transport of passengers. The largest air carrier in the US no longer has dedicated and equipped aircraft just for cargo. So it adapts to the demands of the market. Freight flights are essential in the fight with the new coronavirus.
