Commercial air traffic decreased by 4.3% in February 2020
This year 's decline is due to the epidemic of coronavirus. Thousands of flights were canceled between the affected areas and the rest of the world. The biggest drop in passenger traffic was in China. Air traffic recorded by the 25 busiest airports in China has decreased by 80% since the beginning of the year. The average number of daily flights dropped from 10 in January to less than 000 in February. The major decline in commercial traffic began in the third week of January and accelerated in February.
And in March it made its sadder debut, with the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran, South Korea and Italy. Airlines will continue to cancel more and more flights. The direct flights between Romania and Italy are affected: flights canceled by Blue Air, flights canceled by Wizz Air, flights canceled by Ryanair.
Under these conditions, passenger air traffic will suffer and will certainly be below the estimates made at the beginning of the year. But we will come back with new analyzes at the end of March. Hopefully, the epidemic will disappear in the summer and commercial air traffic will return to normal.
