Continued efforts are being made to facilitate the return of Romanian citizens temporarily abroad who have been affected by the measures taken by the European states to manage and prevent the COVID-19 epidemic.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Communications identified several variants of air transport that will allow the return of Romanian citizens, non-residents, who are seasonal workers, affected by the drastic restriction of the economic activities in which they were engaged in Italy, as well as of the Romanian citizens who are in Italy in special situations, without real possibilities to continue their presence on the Italian territory, which requires their repatriation in the shortest time.

The details regarding the organization of these charter races will be communicated in due time to the Romanian citizens who meet the criteria mentioned above.

A first race will be organized from Turin on March 21, 2020.

Renewed the previous call regarding the avoidance of any foreign trips that are not absolutely essential and the recommendation that the tourists or Romanian citizens temporarily abroad to return to the country as a matter of urgency.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on Romanian citizens to show understanding and responsibility and to responsibly evaluate the opportunity of traveling abroad at this time. Such trips can entail major risks, jeopardizing the safety of citizens and their possibility of returning to the country.

Also, it is appealed to the Romanian citizens with their domicile or residence abroad to strictly respect the recommendations of the authorities of these states and it is emphasized that the trips to Romania are not recommended. These trips may be affected by the restrictions imposed by the transit states and may be an additional factor in the spread of COVID-19 infection, thus endangering the safety of those at home.
