Coronavirus: KLM receives support from partner airlines in China
KLM has partnerships with 3 airlines from China: China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. These partners jumped to the aid of KLM, but not on the operational side, but in the fight with the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
China's partners donated masks and gloves to the air carrier KLM, which in turn will donate them to Erasmus MC in Rotterdam and other medical centers in the Netherlands.
KLM receives support from China
On the morning of March 18, the first transport arrived on an Xiamen Airlines plane. 90 masks and 000 pairs of gloves were taken over by KLM CEO Pieter Elbers. In the present context, medical supplies of this kind can be transported quickly and efficiently with cargo aircraft. This is particularly important in times of hardship and interdependence.
KLM has developed a long-haul route network to China in partnership with China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. Together, KLM and its partners operated 59 weekly flights between Amsterdam Schiphol and destinations in mainland China.
"Thanks to the airline KLM, this donation will help all Dutch healthcare institutions, which are in a critical phase of patient care in the Netherlands. We are also incredibly grateful to KLM's Chinese partners for this. ”- Ernst Kuipers, CEO of Erasmus MC.
