Even on the old continent, the situation is not at all rosy. Italy continues to register most cases with the new Coronavirus. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, in Italy there are over 3000 people confirmed positive with the new virus. This is why air traffic is declining to "boot" destinations.

Lufthansa is adjusting its operations to northern Italy according to the existing demand. More and more flights were canceled between Germany and Italy. Flights to Milan, Venice, Rome, Turin, Verona, Bologna, Ancona and Pisa are affected.

But the internal routes in Germany will also have low frequencies. Lufthansa will cancel several flights from Frankfurt to Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and from Munich to Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bremen and Hanover.

By the end of April, SWISS will reduce frequencies from Zurich to Florence, Milan, Rome and Venice. In March and April, Austrian Airlines reduces its operational program to Italy by 40%. Frequencies to Vienna are reduced to Milan, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples. Until March 14, Brussels Airlines has reduced flights by 30% to Rome, Milan, Venice and Bologna.

Due to these operational reductions, Lufthansa Group holds 150 aircraft on the ground, of which 25 are dedicated to long-haul flights.
