The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in a recent update that stricter travel restrictions should apply to travelers from Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania, as the four countries have high rates of infection.

According to ECDC figures, Germany and several regions of Romania are on the red list, as they identified 75 to 200 cases of infection per 100.000 inhabitants and had a test positivity rate of four percent or more in the last 14 days.

As a general rule, all travelers arriving in the other Member States from one of the countries on the red list should follow strict measures, such as testing and self-isolation rules.

However, in most cases, those who prove that they have been completely vaccinated against the virus or cured in the last six months are included in the list of exemptions. However, some countries require travelers to be tested for COVID-19 before or after entry, regardless of their vaccination status.

In addition, the Baltic countries are severely affected by COVID-19 disease. Based on figures provided by ECDC, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are now on the dark red list, as countries have experienced extremely high cases of infection.

In the last 14 days, the three Baltic countries have identified more than 500 cases of coronavirus infection per 100.000 inhabitants, which means that they also have low vaccination rates.

However, if someone has to travel for absolutely essential purposes from a dark red country, Member States are advised to impose testing and quarantine rules to prevent public health and prevent the further spread of the disease.
