Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife, Emine, tested positive for Covid-19. The president of Turkey made the announcement on his Twitter account on Saturday at noon, saying that they were tested for coronavirus and the results are positive.
"Today, I received the result of the coronavirus test, which I did with my wife after I had mild symptoms. It's positive! Fortunately, we have mild symptoms and have learned that we have Omicron. We will continue our work at home, "Erdogan wrote on Twitter.
The 67-year-old Turkish president has not developed any serious forms of the disease. Eredogan was vaccinated with the third dose of COVID vaccine in June 2021. During the pandemic, Turkey imposed numerous travel restrictions and local blockages to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.
The situation of the pandemic in Turkey is not positive. Turkey has a high number of deaths due to COVID-19, with 248 deaths reported on Friday, the highest number since October 2021. More than 20 new cases of COVID are reported daily.
Travel conditions from Romania to Turkey
Upon entering Turkey from Romania (starting with July 2021 - the third stage of the gradual normalization process), the following measures are maintained:
People who show a negative PCR test, no later than 72 hours before entering Turkey, are excluded from the quarantine measure.
The following are exempt from the quarantine measure and the presentation of the negative PCR test:
- Individuals who show proof of vaccination with two doses of vaccine (listed by WHO or Turkey for emergency use) / 1 dose for Johnson & Johnson and for whom 14 days have elapsed since the booster dose.
- People who can prove that they have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 in the last 6 months, provided that entry into Turkey takes place from the 28th day after the result of the first positive PCR test. Proof of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus may be: a positive result of a PCR test, a certificate issued by state or private certified medical institutions, signed and stamped, issued in English.
- Persons presenting with the result of a rapid negative antigen test, performed no more than 48 hours before entry into Turkey, issued in English by a certified medical unit. Antigen tests performed at home / residence and not accompanied by medical certification are NOT accepted.
- Children under the age of 12 are exempt from presenting a PCR / antigen test or a vaccination certificate. Minors between the ages of 12 and 18 who show proof of vaccination (at least 14 days after the completion of the complete vaccination schedule) must NOT show a negative COVID-19 test.
