On 6 March 2014, the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner (5Y-KZA) Kenya Airways has started the test flights. It took off in fog and low visibility from Boeing's base in Seattle, United States.

Kenya Airways has 9 Boeing 787 ordered plus 4 options, the first to be received on 4 in April. They will replace older Boeing 767 aircraft. The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner (5-KZA) will operate flights on regional routes, beginning in mid-April 2014, following the first long-haul flight to Paris CDG, starting with 3 June 2014.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft operated by Kenya Airways will be configured in two classes: 30 seats in Business Class and 204 seats in Economy Class. Kenya Airways will be the second African carrier with the 787 Dreamliner in the fleet, according to Ethiopian Airlines.
