Following the scandal generated by hijacking of the RYANAIR aircraft in Minsk, The EU has decided to sanction Belarus. Several European countries have announced that they will ban flights operated by Belarusian airlines, while also announcing that they will also ban planes flying over Belarusian airspace.

As a result, Belavia (one of the airlines in Belarus) had to cancel several flights to destinations in Europe. On May 26, Belavia tried to operate flight BRU869 on Minsk (MSQ) to Barcelona (BCN), but was hit by Poland's refusal to allow it into airspace.

The Polish Civil Aviation Agency said the Belavia aircraft was not allowed to enter Polish airspace because France, a country on the route, banned it from flying. The aircraft entered the hold above the cities of Brest and Baranovichi to consume enough fuel, before returning back to Minsk, where it landed safely.
