Frankfurt Airport 2020: 18.8 million passengers, down 73.4% compared to 2019

Fraport Group presented the figures for Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). In 2020, one of the busiest airports in Europe saw a 73.4% drop in passenger air traffic, reporting 18.8 million passengers.

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Frankfurt's main airport began to see a major decline in passenger traffic. Between April and June, air traffic almost stopped at Frankfurt International Airport, down 98% from the same period last year. There was a slight increase in the summer months, and from September 2020, air passenger traffic will decrease again.

A Fraport AG official said passenger traffic had reached 1984 levels.

Related to the number of aircraft movements, Frankfurt International Airport recorded a decline of 58.7% compared to 2019, reaching 212.235 takeoffs and landings in 2020.

Related to cargo transport, there was a slight decrease of 8.3% compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 2 million metric tons.
