We are at the end of 2020 and we are optimistic about 2021. This year has been difficult in all respects due to the pandemic with the new coronavirus. Perhaps the hardest thing for us was to stay isolated, to travel for essential purposes, to give up parties and frequent outings with friends.

The issue of tourist travel was not even raised. It is true that there were times when we were able to travel to different destinations in Europe without fear of restrictions, but most countries requested a negative COVID-19 test. We can say that 2020 was the year of quarantine / isolation and negative test travel.

2021 is expected to be the year of tourist travel based on the COVID-19 vaccine. Cyprus is one of the few countries to announce lifting restrictions on foreigners vaccinated against the disease. The measure will apply from March 1, 2021.

Those who do NOT want to be vaccinated and still plan to travel to Cyprus will have to comply with the restrictive measures in force at the time.

Cyprus has introduced a new classification of entry restrictions. According to the authorities, the new measures should encourage the relaunch of international flights.

Cyprus introduces a new classification

Category A will be replaced by "green category". Those traveling from the countries on this list will no longer be required to be tested or isolated when they arrive in Cyprus.

Category B, which is currently in use, will be replaced by "orange category". Citizens of the countries listed in this category will be required to test negative for COVID-19, not older than 72 hours.

Category C will be replaced by "red category". Citizens of this category will have to submit two negative results of the PCR test for COVID-19. However, the citizens of these countries will not be obliged to comply with the quarantine rules.

The last category is "gray", Also known as"special permit category". Travelers arriving in Cyprus from any country included in this category will have to submit a negative COVID-19 test result and complete the quarantine requirements introduced by the Cypriot Ministry of Health.

Countries will be ranked based on the weekly assessment report of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The countries of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, third countries approved by the European Council, together with Ukraine, Russia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Belarus, will be classified in one of the categories green, orange and red.

Regarding the countries not mentioned above, they will be framed in gray category, and travelers from these countries will be required to have a special permit to enter Cyprus.

Currently, Romania is in the C / red category, and access is allowed only to certain categories of people (not tourists).
