On 5 March 2014, Garuda Indonesia joined SkyTeam and became the 20 full member. Garuda added Jakarta as an alternative gateway to Southeast Asia, as well as 40 of unique destinations on the SkyTeam network.

As a mutual service, passengers Garuda Indonesia they will be able to travel more efficiently and faster on the network SkyTeam consisting of over 1000 destinations. At the same time, the accession of the carrier Garuda Indonesia to SkyTeam has strengthened the reputation of the company "World-Class" and puts it on an equal footing with many other airlines globally.

The airline Garuda offers flights to 64 from destinations in 12 of countries, including 40 from domestic destinations. SkyTeam customers will have easier access to business and tourist destinations from Indonesia, but also from Australia with flights to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. At the same time, Garuda will increase the frequency of flights to Europe by opening the route Jakarta - Gatwick, London.

Upon joining SkyTeam, Garuda will have to adhere to the same standards required by the alliance, including passenger loyalty programs.

SkyTeam is a global airline alliance that offers its customers access to a network of 1064 destinations from 178 countries. Every day, the 20 of SkyTeam member airlines operate approximately 15700 of flights, recording 588 of millions of passengers annually. They can earn and redeem miles throughout the SkyTeam network. The 20 SkyTeam members are: Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
