Garuda Indonesia cancels order for 49 of 737 MAX aircraft

Garuda Indonesia has announced that it is canceling the order for 49 of 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Initially, the Indonesian carrier placed an order for 50 737 MAX 8 aircraft, and the first was delivered in December 2017.

Garuda Indonesia has sent an official request to Boeing, according to a statement by Fuad Rizal, Garuda Indonesia's chief financial officer. He also mentioned that it does not preclude the air carrier Garuda Indonesia from ordering other aircraft from Boeing.

Garuda Indonesia cancels order for 737 MAX 8

This is the first request for cancellation of some 737 MAX aircraft after the tragedy of 10 March 2019, when a Boeing 737 MAX 8 Ethiopian Airlines crashed. This was the second casualty accident involving an 737 MAX within about 6 months.

"Garuda Indonesia passengers have lost confidence in the 737 MAX and do not want to fly on this model airplane plane"Said Ikhsan Rosan, a spokesman for the Indonesian airline.
