Hi Fly operated the first commercial flight without plastic on board
On December 26, 2018, the Airbus A340-300 Hi Fly aircraft operated the world's first commercial flight without plastic on board. Specifically, without any disposable plastic objects. The flight was operated on the route Lisbon - Natal, Brazil.
Airbus A340-300 (9H-SUN) Hi Fly will operate 4 special flights without plastic products on board. 700 passengers will take part in this experiment.
No plastic on board aircraft
On 4 flights, bamboo cutlery will be used, packaging will be made of paper, plus many other products made from various easy-to-recycle materials.
Hi Fly is the first airline in the world that wants to take a step towards removing plastic from its aircraft until the end of 2019.
Hi Fly officials said that on a normal flight, they use single-use plastic products weighing 350 kilograms. Worldwide, over 100 thousands of flights are operated daily. Can you imagine how harmful plastic is to Earth?
