The highest altitude airport in the world will be inaugurated in China

On 16 September 2013, the airport at the highest altitude will be inaugurated in China. Daocheng Yading Airport is built 4411 meters above sea level and is located in Sichuan Province, Daocheng area, Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

According to a report by Xinhua news agency, the new infrastructure will reduce travel time between Daocheng district and Chengdu, the provincial capital, from two days by bus to 65 minutes by plane.

The new airport was built with an investment of 250 million dollars (approximately 188 million EURO) and will have a capacity of 500 000 of passengers per year. The airport has only one 4.200 meter long runway.

To begin with, the airport will house a single route operated daily between Chengdu and Daocheng, with two additional routes being opened from 1 on October.
