TAROM incident: ATR 42 (YR-ATF) tires failed to land

On the evening of 9 July 2019, at 19: 42, ATR 42 (YR-ATF) was involved in a plane crash at Henri Coandă International Airport, Bucharest. Upon landing, the tires of the main landing gear failed.

The plane operated flight RO638, on the route Satu Mare - Bucharest. There were 22 passengers and crew on board.

There were no injuries. The aircraft was safely stopped, and all its occupants were disembarked in accordance with the procedures.

For a short time, the ATR TAROM plane remained immobilized on the runway 2, 08L-26R, of the airport. According to the press release issued by the Bucharest Airports National Company, the air traffic of passengers was not affected.

According to the TAROM statement, an investigation team will be on site. It will probably be an investigation to determine the causes that led to the tire being dropped on all 4 wheels of the main landing gear.

ATR 42-500 YR-ATF aircraft is 20.5 years old. It flies in the TAROM fleet from March 1999. It is configured in a single class with 48 seats.

This incident should not alarm us. Such situations can be encountered at any company, whether we are talking about a low-cost or a full-service company.
