ITA Airways, recognized as Alitalia's successor, has chosen to join the SkyTeam alliance. Market rumors speculated of a landing in Star Alliance or oneworld, but did not come true. Just two weeks after the new Italian carrier ITA Airways replaced Alitalia on October 14, ITA joined the SkyTeam alliance.
ITA says it will work closely with SkyTeam and its members to add SkyTeam benefits to the offer, such as lounge access, additional baggage permits and priority services.
SkyTeam also agreed with Alitalia Loyalty to "continue the partnership that will allow the six million members of the MilleMiglia travel program to earn and redeem miles on selected SkyTeam members' flights, offering a multitude of opportunities and services."
