The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is celebrating 50 years since its inception. The Kennedy Space Center was created and evolved to meet America's changing needs for the crew space program. Originally known as Launch Operations Directorates (LOD), the base was licensed to 1958, during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower and was dependent on the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama.
In the context of competition with the Soviet Union, the center developed considerably in the 60s as a result of the goal set by John F. Kennedy in 1961 - landing before 1970. Receiving the name of John F. Kennedy on November 29, 1963, the center became known due to the Apollo program, through which humans first landed on the moon.
