KLM 2020 report: 11,2 million passengers carried

The year 2020 was very difficult for KLM. The COVID-19 pandemic led to declining aviation and passenger traffic. KLM carried only 11.2 million passengers, down 68.1 percent from 2019.

According to the report KLM, the airline operated 145 cargo flights to Shanghai, Beijing and Xiamen. More than 2.500 tons of cargo were transported (130 million face masks, 4.5 million gloves and another 7.5 million products needed).

Also in April and May, KLM performed 3.700 repatriation flights, helping more than 250 passengers return home. At the end of the year, KLM launched the pilot program flights without quarantine between Atlanta and Amsterdam, in collaboration with Delta Air Lines.

Another negative result of the COVID-19 pandemic was that 1 in 7 employees was forced to leave the company in 2020. In total, over 5.000 employees were laid off, representing 15% of the total number.

New KLM destinations, added in 2020.

In 2020, the KLM network was enriched with 2 new destinations: Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Riyadeh (Saudi Arabia).

KLM eliminated all aircraft from the fleet 747-400 passengers, 4 x 747-400 combi and 2 x A330-200. Currently, the KLM fleet has 164 aircraft, as follows: 18 x Boeing 787, 30 x Boeing 777, 4 x Boeing 747, 11 x Airbus A330, 52 x Boeing 737 and 49 x Embraer.
