Lion Air will launch full-service Batik Air on 2013

Lion Air, the largest airline in Indonesia and based in Jakarta, will launch a new full-service airline in 2013 - Batik Air. The new operator will own a fleet of 10 Boeing 737-800ER aircraft and compete with Garuda Indonesia on routes to Asia and Australia.

The aircraft will be upgraded and equipped with wi-fi and entertainment systems. The new company will provide the best passenger services, according to statements by Lion Air General Manager Edward Sirait. The idea that Batik Air will be able to compete with Pacific Royale, an Indonesian company founded in 2011 and which started its activity in May 2012.

If everything goes well, the inaugural flight operated by Batik Air will take place in March 2013.
