More free days in 2020, more reasons to travel / Recommendations for city breaks and vacations
We are still a few days away from the new year 2020 (20 20 as a great scholar would say). And, as we have become accustomed to each year, we make a list of upcoming vacations, destinations we want to visit, etc.
In addition to the days off, the year 2020 comes with 15 legal holidays. The good news is that 11 out of the 15 days fall during the week. More days off in 2020, more reasons to travel.
Calendar of legal holidays in 2020
Below is the list of legal holidays in 2020:
- January 1 and 2, 2020 - New Year (Wednesdays and Thursdays) * On December 20, the Government decided that the day of January 3, 2020 should be free for budgeters.
- January 24 - Unification of the Romanian Principalities (Friday);
- April 17 - Great Friday (Friday);
- April 19, 20 - Easter (Sunday, Monday);
- May 1 - Labor Day (Friday);

- December 1 - National Day of Romania (Tuesday);
- December 25 and 26 - Christmas (Friday, Saturday)
The number of free days may increase depending on what the government wants or who knows what new events will take place in 2020. But I just summarize the ones mentioned above and come up with a series of recommendations, obviously subjective, for city breaks and vacations. .
January 24-26, 2020
From January 24-26, you can opt for an extended weekend at a ski resort in Bulgaria, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany. Our recommendation is for a short vacation to skiing in Bansko, Bulgaria. It is near, about 7 hours drive from Bucharest. And 2 nights accommodation for 2 persons costs from 46 € / room.
Or you can discover new European destinations in a city break. We recommend Vienna, Munich, Bari, Prague, Warsaw, Basel. There are destinations about 2 hours away. You have a choice between low-cost (Wizz Air, Ryanair, Blue Air) and full-service flights (Lufthansa, Air France, TAROM, etc.). 2 tickets Bucharest - Warsaw cost somewhere from 400 lei. 2 tickets Bucharest - Basel cost somewhere from 600 lei. 2 tickets Bucharest - Bari cost somewhere from 480 lei. You have to choose from, and the rates are not scary.
Period 1-3 May 2020
Another extended weekend will be May 1-3, 2020. One more reason to travel. The tradition of May 1st says you have to take a bath in the sea. Okay, that is if the weather is favorable and the water is suitable for bathing.
You can opt for a short vacation on Romanian seaside. Remember that you can pay with holiday vouchers for holidays in Romania. Or you can opt for coastal Bulgaria, where there are a variety of offers at different resorts such as Albena, Sunny Beach, Golden Sands.
You can also set up a city break in Europe. As it is only 3 days, I do not recommend that you venture too far. Preferably, the flights should not exceed 3-4 hours maximum. I recommend destinations from the Mediterranean Sea basin. You can opt for a short one Athens city break. Or a short vacation in Paphos, Cyprus. There are numerous flights to destinations in Italy, ideal for short breaks at the end of spring. You can also opt for it holiday in Odessa, something new.
May 30 - June 1, 2020
For Children's Day I have prepared some holiday recommendations with the little ones. We have chosen for you some famous destinations for the famous amusement parks. Recommendations Legoland Germany, which is close to Munich and Memmingen. There are direct flights from Bucharest to both destinations. TAROM and Lufthansa on the Bucharest - Munich route and Wizz Air to Memmingen.
Another famous amusement park in Germany is PLAYMOBIL-Fun Park, near Nurmeberg. Read about those 10 reasons to go on holiday in Nuremberg. It could not miss our recommendations Disneyland Paris, France. Fly to Paris (Air France, TAROM, Wizz Air, Blue Air) and then travel to Marne-la-Vallée. Disneyland packages are not cheap, but I think it is worth it for the children.
If you're passionate about miniature objects, don't miss out Miniature Wunderland from Hamburg, Germany. Hamburg flies directly to TAROM and Blue Air. The prices are good.
Period November 28 - December 1, 2020
An extended 4-day weekend will run from November 28 to December 1. For those patriots, we recommend one city break at IAII and we give you 10 reasons to do so.
Or you can travel in search of the most beautiful Christmas Fairs. In the country you have a choice between Bucharest, Sibiu or Cluj. In Europe, the most famous Christmas fairs are in Strasbourg, France; Vienna, Austria; Munich, Germany; Prague, Czech Republic; Budapest, Hungary. There are direct flights from Romania to these destinations and it would be good to schedule your flights in time. Or you can opt for bus circuits.
If you have any other recommendations, please leave comments with them.
