Major international airlines suspend some flights to the United States due to problems with the new C-Band 5G networks

The new C-Band 5G networks implemented by AT&T and Verizon are giving big headaches to US airlines, but also to major international airlines. Starting today, the new networks will become operational, but interference with some equipment on board the aircraft will lead to the suspension of some flights.

Emirates posted a travel ad on its website and stated that it will suspend flights to the following destinations in the US from January 19, 2022, until further notice: Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth ( DFW), Houston (IAH), Miami (MIA), Newark (EWR), Orlando (MCO), San Francisco (SFO) and Seattle (SEA). Flights to New York JFK, Los Angeles and Washington DC remain active.

Air India has announced that due to new C-Band 5G networks, it will suspend flights to New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Newark.

Japan Airlines has announced that it will adjust its operational schedule according to aircraft. Following the FAA, the new 5G networks may interfere with altimeters installed on Boeing 777 aircraft. Under these circumstances, Japan Airlines decided to fly to the United States with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

ANA (All Nippon Airways) issued a similar statement, mentioning possible interference problems with altimeters installed on Boeing 777 aircraft and for these reasons it had to suspend some flights to the USA.

It should be noted that The FAA has approved two models of radio altimeters used in Boeing and Airbus aircraft to fly to C-Band 5G airports, but this covers up to 45% of the existing US aircraft fleet.
