The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has found that an increasing number of countries are reopening their borders to international travelers vaccinated against COVID-19, reporting that more than 20 countries have totally or partially lifted restrictions on travelers already immunized. Spain is the latest European country to announce that, from 7 June, will reopen the borders for all vaccinated people, regardless of the country of origin.

Undoubtedly, this measure will be stimulated by implementation "EU COVID digital certificate", approved on a proposal from the European Commission by the two most important European institutions, the Council and the Parliament. It will allow control - at European airports - in an agile and efficient way and will facilitate the journey of European citizens between the countries in the region. The European Union has previously opened borders for third-country travelers who have received the two doses of the vaccine.

More than 20 countries have lifted, in whole or in part, restrictions on immunized travel in Europe alone.

A recent IATA survey shows strong support for a digital solution. 89% of those consulted take the globally standardized COVID-19 tests or vaccination certificates. 84% want an application to manage the certificates and documents needed for travel. IATA conducted the study on a total of 4.700 online interviews in 11 markets, conducted between 15 and 23 February 2021. The sample used 500 people from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India and Australia. In Chile, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, the sample was only 300 people.

IATA, which supports unrestricted access to travel for vaccinated people, stressed that, where vaccination is not possible, access to quarantine-free travel must be ensured through free and widely available testing strategies. Another IATA survey reveals large fluctuations in test prices in different markets. The agency warned that high test prices in some states could make flights inaccessible and prevent many families from traveling.
