In January 2016, SIBIU Airport has taken 7 new routes to the auction. Of the 7 routes, Wizz Air claimed 4: Milan, Madrid, Memmingen and Nurnberg.
These routes will be opened with the financial assistance allocated for new routes, based on the aid scheme approved by the European Commission Decision C (2013) 3095 final - State aid SA.35908 - Romania - Start-up aid for the airlines departing from the Airport Sibiu International. The condition of providing the state aid is that the route should be active for at least five years, no longer be operated from Sibiu Airport by any other company, and the frequency of flights should be at least 2 weekly flights.
According to the site Oradesibiu.ro, Sibiu County Council officials officially announced that Wizz Air has won the tender for the opening of new routes from Sibiu Airport. The contract will be signed in April, and the flights will become operational from August. We are also waiting for the Wizz Air press conference for timetables and rates.
