Update February 15, 2021: Starting with January 15, 2021, at 00:00, persons who will travel to the Republic of Austria have the obligation to register online in advance, by completing a document called "Pre-Travel-Clearance - PTC".

If registration is not possible using the electronic form, the standard, completed and handwritten signed form may exceptionally be used. The form is available in the languages German and English.

Exceptions from the measure of electronic registration: professional carriers of goods, persons in transit, persons participating in family events that cannot be postponed (for example: funeral ceremonies).

In addition to the electronic registration measure, upon entry into the Republic of Austria, the measures adopted on 19.12.2020 will continue to apply, as follows:

If the test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection (PCR or antigen) cannot be presented at the entrance, it must be performed within 24 hours of entering Austria. The document certifying the performance of the test must contain: the name and surname of the person tested, date of birth, date and time of sampling, test result (positive or negative), signature of the person performing the test, stamp of the test institution or barcode, respectively code QR.

The new measures on entry conditions also apply to tourists.

Exceptions to the quarantine measure:

  1. People traveling from Australia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and the Vatican are exempt from the quarantine measure and may present supporting documents proving that they have been in the last 10 days. -they were on the territory of the respective states.
  2. People who are part of the following categories:
    • humanitarian mission staff;
    • members of the staff of diplomatic missions or their family members living in the same household; employees of international organizations or their family members living in the same household;
    • care and medical staff;
    • seasonal workers in agriculture, forestry or tourism;
    • persons traveling for medical reasons and an accompanying person. It is necessary to present some medical, supporting documents, issued by a specialist doctor, attesting the medical appointment / intervention / control;
    • persons arriving to meet a mandatory legal or administrative duty, such as filing summonses in legal proceedings;

They can enter Austrian territory if they have a molecular PCR test with a negative result for SARS-CoV-2 infection or an antigen test, taken no later than 72 hours before entering this state, written in German or English. Only in the absence of a negative test result, those persons and those living with them are obliged to undergo a period of quarantine at home (or in a suitable location whose costs must be borne from the personal budget), immediately after entering Austria. The quarantine measure may be suspended immediately if a negative result of a negative PCR or antigen molecular test is presented.

Transit is allowed on a permanent basis, non-stop (overnight), of Romanian citizens on the territory of Austria to destinations in other states, without applying the quarantine measure or presenting a test for SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Supporting documents may be required at the border to certify entry into the State of destination: domicile / residence / right of residence / employment contract / any other proof of the need for entry, for example a certificate of necessary medical treatment, studies, etc. .

The Austrian authorities carry out strict border controls, and within the Tyrolean border also epidemiological checks, making it possible to increase waiting times for crossing the Austrian border.

The amount of fines imposed for non-compliance with the measures imposed to prevent and combat the pandemic has been increased. Controls in ski resorts will be tightened to monitor compliance.

From January 25, on Austrian Airlines flights it is mandatory to wear the FFP2 mask without valve.
