The Greek Ministry of Tourism, Vasilis Kikilias, announced that more than 16 thousand people visit the Acropolis in Athens every day, one of the most visited tourist attractions in Greece. In a statement issued on August 1, Vasilis Kikilias also emphasized that it is important to note that foreign tourists, mainly Americans, have started arriving since March.

The Minister of Tourism, Vasilis Kikilias, together with the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, visited the archaeological site of the Acropolis. As the Ministry explains, the ministers' visit started at the entrance to the archaeological area for disabled people, where special vehicles pick up disabled visitors and send them to the lift that takes them to the rock of the Acropolis. In addition, other people who encounter difficulties can enter the entire archaeological area as well as disabled people.

"This proves in practice that the planning of the Ministry of Tourism to extend the tourist season is paying off, as in many cases the figures of 2022 are close to those of 2019, despite the fact that these two years cannot be compared due to the crises multiple (war, inflation, pandemic)", Kikilias emphasized in this regard.

To his credit, such difficulties seem to have been " equalized ” of targeted actions taken in previous months, such as direct flights from the United States to “El Venizelos” that began in early March, and efforts are being made to expand by the end of the year.

On July 27, Minister Kikilias also revealed that a total of 5,7 million travelers are expected to visit the Greek capital in the second half of this year. In the first week of August alone, more than 1 million tourists are expected at Greek airports.

As expected, the minister announced that the turnover in 2022 exceeded the amounts of 2019. For example, in the food sector, the increase is 40 million EURO higher than the same period of 2019.
