Croatia is a state of democratic, unitary and indivisible welfare. It is located in the northwest of the Balkan Peninsula, on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. Dubrovnik

We start with Dubrovnik, which is considered the most visited destination in Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist resorts in the Adriatic Sea. It is located in the extreme south of Croatia, being in the center of Dubrovnik-Neretva canton.

The Croatian name "Dubrovnik" comes from the word dubrava, "dumbrav". By an unusual folk etymology, the Turks changed this name to Dobro-Venedik, meaning Venice-Good. The name began to be used in parallel with that of Ragusa as early as the 14th century. The official name change from Dubrovnik to Dubrovnik took place during Austro-Hungarian rule.

Dubrovnik is an old city with a rich history of pleasant and less pleasant events. You can visit the historical center, the old city of Dubrovnik, stroll the narrow streets, stop at a tavern and enjoy the local culinary traditions.

Split

Split is the largest city on the Dalmatian Coast, with opening to the Adriatic Sea. Split is known for the Diocletian's Palace and the Cathedral with the famous bell tower. Currently, Split is the place where the archbishop lives.

Despite the existence of the ancient ancient fortress Salona (today Solin), located north of today's Split, the construction of the city began through the palace of the Roman emperor. Diocletian, who ruled between 284 and 305, ordered its construction in the year 300.

In the 7th century, the huge building was inaugurated, and the first citizens of Split settled behind the walls. Even today, the palace is the center of the city, full of shops and markets. The cathedral (mausoleum during Diocletian) is right in the center of it.

The old historical center and Diocletian's Palace in Split were inscribed in the 1979 year on the list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

Split lives on tourism, fishing, wine. It is also a traffic hub for Dalmatia: most of the islands in the middle of Dalmatia cannot be reached without passing through the port of Split (usually by Jadrolinija ferries).

Trogir

Trogir is a famous resort in the Split-Dalmatia region. It is known for its medieval architecture, for various tourist attractions such as St. Laurentiu Cathedral, Cipiko Palaces, the statue of the protector of the city - Ivan Orsini and many more. Also called the "museum city", the historic center of the city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List (since 1997).

At every step, you can discover a museum, an ancient library, stone monuments, ruins, but also many bars and restaurants.

Opatija

Opatija is recognized as one of the oldest tourist destinations in Croatia. It is a more elegant and luxurious destination compared to the other cities mentioned above. It is a city in western Croatia, southwest of Rijeka, on the Adriatic coast.

The modern history of the city began in 1844, when Iginio Scarpa, a wealthy merchant from Rijeka, founded Villa Angiolina. In 1872, the Railways came to Matulji and thus opened the way for the development of tourism in Opatija and Lovran.

In 1947, Opatija was given to Yugoslavia. Most of the Italian-speaking population, whose percentage has increased substantially in recent years, has migrated to Italy. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, which began in 1991, the city became part of Croatia.

And from the “did you know” category: the “Adriatic” hotel was the first hotel built in Opatija after the Austro-Hungarian era; and "Casino Rosalia", which was built in Opatija, is the first casino in Eastern Europe.

Rabac

Rabac is a Croatian seaside resort with openings in the Kvarner Bay, southeast of Labin, in Istria. The resort has developed around a small fishing port, reaching today a real city littered with numerous villas, hotels and blocks.

Rabac resort is recognized for the electronic music festival, which attracts thousands of fans of this musical genre every year, but also for the summer carnival.

Tourists in Rabac can enjoy the beach, resort trips and the surroundings, and those passionate about fishing can opt for such an activity.

One of the first tourists in Rabac was the well-known explorer and geographer - Richard Francis Burton.
