(P) A holiday in the Greek islands is always the right choice!

Winter is nearing the end, and outside temperatures have started to rise. The day is getting bigger and the sun is beginning to shine brighter. The thought began to fly us to the sea and the sun, on those hot and icy days that we would love to spend on the beach, in the company of friends or loved ones. This is how I came to browse the folder with photos from Greece. Going beyond the patterns, I can say co vacation in Greece it is always the right choice. If you haven't been, go!

Greece is close to Romania, just a few hours drive or a flight away. During the summer season, travel agencies and air carriers have prepared numerous charters to different destinations in Greece, island and mainland.

A holiday in the Greek islands

Did you know that the Greeks had a choice between mountain and coastal tourism? About 80% of the country's territory is mountainous or hilly, with Greece being one of the most mountainous countries in Europe. And yet, they chose to develop beaches and islands.

Greece has the longest coast in the Mediterranean basin and the 11 in length in the world, with a total distance of 13.676 km. He owns about 6000 of islands, of which 227 are inhabited.

Lefkada, Corfu, Skiathos, Thassos?

If you have not decided on the destination, I recommend it vacation in the islands of Greece. You can choose from dozens of beautiful islands, with top beaches and spectacular scenery.

Over time, I had the joy of discovering some Greek islands, but also the mainland. From my travel experience, I highly recommend one of the islands: Lefkada, Corfu, Skiathos, Evia and Thassos.

Each island is unique in its services, landscapes and beaches. Some islands have fine sandy beaches, others have gravel beaches. Some islands abound in lush landscapes, others in historical monuments and in different places to visit. Depending on your preferences, you can choose one island or another. Consult your friends, lover or travel consultant and make the right choice.

For those who are passionate about airplanes, obviously my recommendation is Skiathos. The reason is one: Skiathos is recognized as St Maarten of Europe. The airport runway is adjacent to the beach, and those passionate about airplanes can admire the landings and take-offs at this airport.

Another top island is Thassos. The "emerald island", as it is also called, is located in the northern Aegean basin, at 8 km away from the Mediterranean coast of Thrace. It is the 12 in size from the Hellenic and northernmost archipelago. Here you will have the opportunity to see spectacular joints between the mountain and the sea. Thassos is also known as the "marble island". Its subterranean is home to large deposits of white marble, perhaps the most white marble on the planet.

Thassos Island it has sandy beaches to the north and south, but also to rocky beaches to the east and west. The most famous beach is Marble Beach. It is covered with marble pebbles. Pay attention to these details when choosing your accommodation unit.

Other beaches visited, which I liked: Moraitika and Paleokastritsa - Corfu; Koukounaries - Skiathos. And from friends' recommendations, you don't have to miss out Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach) - Zakynthos and Egremni Beach - Lefkada. The fine sand and turquoise waters create an exotic landscape.

About the accommodation units, I recommend that you take care of the details. The stars in Romania are not the equivalent of the stars in Greece. You can choose a room in 3, 4 or 5 stars hotels or villas. From this point of view, the Greek islands offer a variety of accommodation units.

By the way, there are few good hotels with all inclusive services. My recommendation is to take a standard accommodation with breakfast, at most half-board.

On the culinary side, I only have words of praise for the Greeks. If you are a fish and seafood lover, you will definitely feel at home. Shrimps, squid, octopus, shells, a madness of tastes and colors. Greek cuisine is not missing: gyros, Greek salad, feta cheese, olives, sadziki, souvlaki, ouzo, Greek yogurt, honey, saganaki cheese, baked eggplant. I recommend you enjoy a delicious tavern feast.

Writing these lines, I was craved for a cold beer to enjoy on one of the beaches of Greece, sitting on a deck chair. I also imagine the Mythos beer bottle, cold and "sweaty", as it waits for the table to be enjoyed.

That said, all we have to do is buy our vacation and pack our bags. There is not much time until summer. At the same time, we take advantage of the early booking offers!
