PNG Air, an airline in Papua New Guinea, has ordered 3 ATR 42-600S (STOL) aircraft to ensure connectivity throughout the region.

Papua New Guinea is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean, north of Australia and east of Indonesia. It divides the island of New Guinea with the provinces of Papua and West Papua of Indonesia. The capital is Port Moresby.

Being an island country, airports do not have very long runways. And the aircraft ATR 42-600S (STOL) is suitable for such operations. Regarding the model ATR 42-600S (STOL), it is capable of landings and take-offs on very short runways, of at least 800 meters.

With this order, PNG Air will be the launch customer for the ATR 42-600S. The aircraft will be configured in a class of 40 seats. The new ATR 42-600S aircraft will replace the old Bombardier Dash 8-100 aircraft. PNG Air currently owns 7 ATR 72-600 aircraft.
