On 31 January 2018, around 11: 06, the first Airbus A321LR (Long Range) took off from the Hamburg base. The first flight of the new model A321LR was successfully operated, thus marking the beginning of the testing period. The Airbus A321LR (MSN7877) aircraft is powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines.

On the run were test pilots Yann Beaufils and Peter Lofts, as well as flight engineers Frank Hohmeister, Jim Fawcett, Cedric Favrichon.

The A321LR has a new door configuration, allowing the transport of up to 240 passengers. At the same time, this model is also called Airbus A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) through the changes made to the interior.

By increasing the maximum take-off weight (MTOW) to 97 tons and mounting the al-3lea fuel tank (ACT), the Airbus A321LR can have a flight range of up to 4.000nm (7.400 km). It is a plane configured for long-haul flights.

The aircraft is ready to perform a test program, which will include 100 flight hours. The program will include transatlantic flights for FAA and EASA certification. The aircraft will enter commercial service from Q4 2018.
