On 17 January 2019, Boeing delivered the first Boeing 787 WestJet, marking the beginning of the airline's global expansion.

To date, WestJet, one of Canada's largest air carriers, has operated a fleet of single-aisle aircraft. By welcoming the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, WestJet will step up its expansion to far-flung destinations.

The first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner WestJet will be used on the Calgary - Dublin route, being the first long-haul destination. Following that it will be introduced later on the Calgary - London Gatwick and Calgary - Paris routes. Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has a range of up to 14140 kilometers.

787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will be able to carry up to 320 passengers in a configuration with 3 classes: 16 seats to business class, 28 seats to premium economy and 276 seats to economy.
