On May 15, 2014, Qantas Airways celebrated 60 years of trans-Pacific flights between Australia and the United States. It all started on May 15, 1954, when the Lockheed 1049C Super Constellation aircraft under the livery of Qantas Airways took off on the Sydney - San Francisco - Vancouver route. The plane had 60 passengers on board, and the flight lasted 30 hours and involved 3 technical stops for refueling in Fiji, Canton Island and Hawaii.

Qantas Airways christened this Southern Cross route in honor of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and his team, who made the first flight in 1928.

Also this year, Qantas Airways celebrates 30 years of flights between Sydney / Melbourne and Los Angeles, inaugurated in April 1984. These flights were operated by Boeing 747SP aircraft, and the flight time was 16 hours. Currently, routes are honored with A380, and the flight time is approximately 13 hours.

Currently, Qantas Airways operates the following trans-Pacific flights between Australia and the United States:

Direct daily flights by Airbus A380 between Sydney / Melbourne - Los Angeles;
Daily Boeing 747-400 flights on the Sydney - New York route via Los Angeles;
Direct daily flights by Boeing 747-400 on the route Brisbane - Los Angeles;
Three weekly Boeing 767-300 flights between Sydney and Honolulu;
Daily direct flights with Boeing 747-400 between Sydney and Dallas / Fort Worth, following from September 29 to reduce the number of flights to 6 per week, but operated with Airbus A380.
