Qantas blocks the access of unvaccinated passengers on its flights

Qantas Airways will ban unvaccinated passengers from traveling on its international flights with the reopening of Australia's borders, confirmed the airline's Executive Director Alan Joyce.

All passengers intending to board Qantas aircraft for international flights will be asked to demonstrate that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 virus. According to Joyce, Qantas Airways aims to carry only vaccinated passengers, arguing that such a requirement could make passengers more confident during their journey.

Qantas Airways has said it will resume international travel in October 2021, not in July, as originally planned.

The new rule will take effect in December 2021.

In August 2021, the Australian flag carrier warned that all of its 22.000 employees who have frequent contact with passengers, including flight crews, cabin crew and ground support personnel, will be fully vaccinated by 15 November 2021, and some staff will receive the second dose of the vaccine by March 31, 2022.

Qantas has also launched a special campaign - nationwide - to promote vaccination. Vaccinated passengers participating in the campaign can win prizes such as free flights, holiday accommodation or petrol for their personal car. The carrier hopes the initiative will encourage more Australians to get vaccinated.

In early 2020, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce announced plans to impose compulsory vaccination for international passengers, once the vaccine will be widely available, saying such measurements would be a necessity.
