Qantas returned to Argentina 8 years after the last flight.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 150 Australians were stranded in Argentina. The Australian Embassy in Argentina has prepared a repatriation flight, which was operated by Qantas on April 24 (Melbourne - Buenos Aires) and April 25 (Buenos Aires - Melbourne).
QF 7027 Melbourne (MEL) 11:10 - 12:00 Buenos Aires (EZE)
QF 7028 Buenos Aires (EZE) 14:00 - 19:30 +1 Melbourne (MEL)
In addition to the 150 Australians, 20 New Zealanders were on board. They will stay one night in Melbourne, before continuing their journey home where they will be quarantined.
The flights were operated with the Boeing 787-9 VH-ZNI Qantas aircraft, which is 6 months old since it arrived in the Australian carrier's fleet.
Qantas operated flights between Australia and Argentina for 4 years, from 2008-2012. The last flight was operated on the route Buenos Aires - Sydney on March 24, 2012. The reason Qantas decided to stop the flight to Buenos Aires was because of the agreement it concluded with LATAM (then LAN), thus moving the flights from Buenos Aires to Santiago de Chile.
