Qatar Airways in 2016: 19 new aircraft and 14 new routes launched

Orders placed for 350 by Airbus and Boeing aircraft!

For Qatar Airways, the 2016 year proved to be a successful one. It received 14 new aircraft, the fleet reaching a total of 192 aircraft, but also placed orders for other aircraft. At the same time, Qatar Airways has launched 14 new routes globally.

According to Qatar Airways officials, the strategic partnerships concluded this year, as well as the expansion of the fleet and destination network, contributed to this successful year.

Praised for its performance, Qatar Airways has received a number of awards throughout the year, confirming the evolution of the air carrier.

Qatar Airways also celebrated financial performance, announcing the completion of the 2016 fiscal year with an operating profit of over 3 billion QAR (over 823 million dollars).

19 new aircraft and 14 new routes launched

Qatar Airways is one of the few fastest growing airlines in aviation history. 2016 brought it 14 new destinations in Qatar Airways portfolio: Adelaide (Australia), Atlanta (US), Birmingham (UK), Boston (United States of America), Helsinki (Finland), Los Angeles (US), Marrakech (Morocco), Pisa (Italia) Ras Al Khaimah (UAE) Sydney (Australia), Windhoek (Namibia) Yerevan (Armenia), Krabi (Thailand) and Mahe (Seychelles).

2016 was also on the fleet side, 19 new aircraft entering the carrier fleet in Qatar. Qatar Airways was the launch customer for Airbus A350 XWB, currently having 13 units in the fleet and used on flights to Boston, Los Angeles or Adelaide.

But Qatar Airways is also considering upgrading the fleet in the future. In 2016, placed a command for 30 of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft and 10 Boeing 777-300ER. He also signed a letter of intent for 60 of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Currently, all orders placed by Qatar Airways add up to 350 of Airbus and Boeing aircraft. They are valued at over 90 billion and will be delivered in the coming years.

This was the 2016 summary of the year for Qatar Airways. And the future sounds good. Qatar Airways intends to launch 14 routes between 2017-2018, and among destinations we have Canberra (Australia); Dublin (Ireland); Las Vegas (USA) (from 8 January 2018); Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Santiago de Chile.
