On June 23, Regio Călători announced important changes regarding the train traffic on the routes Bucharest North - Otopeni Airport and Bucharest North - Ploiești South. Consequently, according to the announcement, Regio Călători trains will no longer run on the 2 routes starting with July 1, 2021.

At the same time, on 30.06.2021, trains RE 16057, RE 16056, RE 16059 and RE 16058 on the relationship Bucharest North - Otopeni Airport and return is canceled.

Regio Călători is one of the two private operators that connect Bucharest North Railway Station with Henri Coandă Otopeni International Airport. Regio Călători does not motivate the decision to stop operating on the two routes, but it is assumed that these are economic reasons.

As I wrote in another article, trains to / from Otopeni Airport have no passengers. I have identified five reasons, but there are probably others. The authorities "hurried" to make this connection between Bucharest North Station and Otopeni Airport so that Bucharest does not lose the organization of the four matches at EURO 2020. As the last match will be on June 28, the number of passengers will probably return to " normal ”in recent months, when about 500 people were transported daily. Or this number is much too small for how many frequencies they are.

The problem is that it is not yet known what will happen to the time slots currently covered by Regio Călători. Conformable clubferoviar.ro, Regio Călători has 20 trains on this route out of a total of 72 existing. If they remain discovered, people will certainly move even further away from the train journey to Otopeni Airport.
